    Category: Festivals celebrated at home
    It is celebrated on the twelfth day after the full moon or Dwadashi of the Shukla Paksha of Kartika month. According to Puranas, Lord Vishnu who remains in cosmic sleep for 4 months (Chathurmas) commencing from Aashaada Ekadashi would wake up on Ksheeraabdhi Ekadashi day i.e., a day before this Dwadashi. One legend says that it was on the Dwadashi that Lord Vishnu and Tulasi, the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi married. Cleaning the pedestal or the plant pots of Tulasi, decorating with rangolis using rice flour mixed with different organic colours, garlanding the pedestal with mango leaves, flowers, etc., and lighting lamps in front of Tulasi are some auspicious religious rituals.
